The cottages are virtually identical, with the same great layout, equipment and furnishings. A perfect base for a superb holiday in the Lake District and a fantanstic place to return after a day outdoors.
We know that your holiday is very precious and we will personally strive to ensure that you have a really enjoyable time here. The vast majority of our bookings are repeat bookings from customers who love The Rookery and appreciate its very special comfort, cleanliness and convenience.
Each cottage is professionally cleaned between stays and all beds are made up ready for your arrival. All essentials are provided including all bed and bath linens and kitchen essentials.
Our aim has been to make each cottage a cosy, clean and friendly holiday home, equipped with everything that you would need. All of the cottages overlook Stock Ghyll, which is a wildlife haven and a beautiful and tranquil place to be - with many sightings of heron, otters, badgers, dippers, ducks and small fish.
There are gated steps down to the river beside No. 3 and all cottage guests are welcome to go down and enjoy the water. This is a fantastic adventure playground enjoyed by kids and parents alike.

Rookery Cottages, Stock Ghyll Lane, Ambleside, Cumbria, LA22 0QY
First of all, get to Ambleside. There is a one-way traffic system in operation around the centre of Ambleside, which you can join from the South (Windermere side) or the North (Keswick / Kirkstone Pass side). Once you are on the one-way system look for The Ambleside Salutation Hotel (a large white hotel building set on the road left and slightly higher than the road). If travelling from the North, you will reach this point very soon after arriving in Ambleside.
If travelling from the South, you will need to drive around half of the one-way system first and ensure you turn right beside Boots the Chemist to stay on the one-way system heading back around towards Windermere (not out towards Keswick). Once you spot The Ambleside Saluation Hotel turn into the narrow lane then turn left going uphill, signposted “To the waterfalls”. This is Stock Ghyll Lane. Go up Stock Ghyll Lane for only 40 yards and branch off left onto a narrow private lane. This lane runs past a small private car park and it ends after 50 yards at The Rookery.
